About West Coast Canada Institute for ISTDP
Vision
The West Coast Institute for ISTDP was founded
in May 2008. And although we are new to the
national and international ISTDP scene (and
likely the smallest in number), we are dedicated,
enthusiastic, and committed to bringing ISTDP to
Western Canada.
We are enlisting the top ISTDP clinicians,
presenters, researchers and teachers to
Vancouver to advance the theory and practice of
ISTDP.
Why? Our mission is to contribute to clinical
professionals achieving their highest levels
of expertise, effectiveness and efficiency
in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Closer to Home
While ISTDP method originated in Canada
at Montreal’s McGill Hospital with Dr. Habib
Davanloo. A number of Dr. Davanloo’s
students have carried his work around the
world–some incorporating their own perspectives
and specialties along the way. These groups of
dedicated professionals continue to teach,
supervise and train others in ISTDP across
Europe, the United States and Canada.
Until now, most Western Canadians had to
travel to Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Los
Angeles, New York and Washington DC or Europe to
learn the ISTDP psychodynamic psychotherapy. The
West Coast Canada Institute, is changing that.
We are bring the best in the world to the Lower
Mainland and welcoming the world to our West
Coast life. Here are a few of our upcoming
ISTDP-related activities
Inaugural Event
To launch the West Coast Canada Institute’s
ISTDP activities, we welcomed renowned
Dutch psychologist Dr. Josette ten Have-de Labije.
Dr. ten Have-de Labije, who now resides in Berlin, and who
visited and presented in Vancouver for the first time.
We were honoured she has chosen to be our inaugural
presenter.
Dr. ten Have-de Labije conducted a 1-day
clinical (audiovisual) case presentation and
seminar at the Vancouver Public Library. Her
powerful and beautiful presentation was
“The Woman Who Fell Into The Void”
and took place on Friday, October 17, 2008.
She also supervised ISTDP students and
graduates on Saturday October 18th–and this
supervision was be audited by non-ISTDP
trained clinicians.
